Vauxhall Astra mk3 aka the scrapheap challenge

Apologies for the shoddy web workmanship of this page, I'm using my sister's laptop which is lacking in front page so I'm having to cobble this together in longhand HTML from memory!

CLICK HERE for old photos of the scrapheapchallenge.

bear in mind this is a WORK IN PROGRESS! so NO its not perfect (and possibly never will be) the rub strips have now been removed (new photos soon) I now have a new drivers side facelift wingmirror (after many months searching!) And I now have new vented vectra brake disks. Yes I know my decals are chav but I don't care LOL. Yes my wheels are only ikkle 15's but I am on a shoestring budget and couldn't afford bigger ones.

below: my performance upgrade, propellor driven astra!

I bought this from HBC vehicle services (an online salvage auction for vehicles written off by insurance companies for various reasons) for £140, the total cost to get it road worthy (as it didn't have a front end when I got it!) was around £600 including labour and parts as not all parts came from the scrapheap, so that included an entire brand new exhaust system as well.

I sold my old astra for £350 and bought a set of 15" Wolfrace Luna D wheels and tryres from Motorworld (limited edition) for £349!, reaspraying the front bumper, bonnet, front wings, pulling dents, de-badging the boot logo then smoothing and trimming the rear wheel arches cost £150. The ICE is a Blaupunkt Madison DJ31 I had already which runs the 10 CD changer in the boot, and takes my 40gigabyte MP3 player via a casette adaptor (I'll update the head unit at some point) also runs two 100W velocity bassreflex subwoofers with built-in amps, one in the boot (pictured, and that's not camera shake, that's the vibration!) and the other concealed under the passenger seat, giving said passenger an "interesting" and apparently enjoyable ride! The total ICE package which came out of my old Astra (except the MP3 player) cost around £400 (installed) when new, and it cost £170 to transfer it all into the new car.

Styling so far extends to GSi front bumper (ebay), light brows (PVD when they were still around, had them for the old astra and swapped them over), clear indicators, blue side reapeaters with silvatek bulbs (PVD again), Ripspeed gear knob, pedals, harness pads and tax disc holder (halfords) and CT racing mats. I also got some white dials backlit with blue LED's (ebay again). Got some some seat covers, nothing fancy but it keeps my seats clean from my work clothes for now.

Future plans:
